Hep C: Take Control
is a six week group program run by Hepatitis Victoria. In a supportive group environment, participants will work together to share skills and develop strategies to better manage their condition and improve their symptoms.Some topics to be covered are:
· Better management of hepatitis C and liver-related health problems
· Treatment and dealing with side effects
· Working effectively with doctors and other health professionals
· Making healthy lifestyle changesHep C: Take Control is suitable for anyone with hepatitis C, or for those who have successfully cleared the virus, but are experiencing ongoing health effects. There will be an emphasis on respecting the privacy and confidentiality of participants.

This workshop is suitable for drug and alcohol workers, nurses, NSP workers, community health staff, students of health professions, prison staff and welfare workers. No prior knowledge is assumed.
The session is divided into three parts.
The first part will outline the basic facts of hepatitis C, how it differs from hep A & B, psycho-social issues, and OH&S.
The second part will focus on the impact and meaning of hepatitis C for people who inject drugs.

The Program Coordinator will be a professional, high performing, results

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Navigations Team that provides community based alcohol and other drug (AOD) counselling. This is a unique position that operates within the family based, child centred service of Uniting Care Kildonan in Reservoir.
The position will provide counselling and case management to individuals affected by substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions and will operate within the Kildonan Integrated Placement Prevention and Reunification Service (IPPRS). This is a new position to trial an integrated service delivery model to clients referred from child protection services. The work is expected to be outreach with a client load of 4-6 at any one time.
The successful applicant will have:
· Relevant tertiary qualification with core drug and alcohol competencies along with a minimum of 3 years experience in the AOD field.
· Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds & with complex presentations.
· Experience in providing a high standard of therapeutic interventions, case management, report writing, and working collaboratively with others.
· Experience or interest in working with young persons and families.Odyssey House Victoria provides ongoing professional development and clinical supervision. Coordinator – Rockingham (Acting)Palmerston Association is a large community-based organisation providing counselling, training, education and support for individuals, families and the wider community affected by alcohol and other drug use problems. We operate from nine branches in the state, including Fremantle, Rockingham and Mandurah which collectively represent the South Metro Community Drug Service. This innovative service employs an integrated model to provide a range of AOD services, including medical pharmacotherapies.
We are seeking applications for a full time Coordinator located in Fremantle and an acting opportunity in our Rockingham office for a period of up to one year (due to maternity leave). The successful applicants will coordinate delivery of integrated AOD services in the Fremantle or Rockingham area with a particular focus on counselling and community development programs. Major duties include staff supervision and development, community development initiatives and liaison with integrated service staff.

Australia’s population is ageing rapidly. Older Australians are more likely to drink on a daily basis, take multiple medications, have multiple medical problems and be socially isolated. Despite this, older people are under-represented in alcohol and other drug (AOD) services.
To examine these issues, DrugInfo will be running a seminar on 5 September 2011. This free interactive seminar will also consider issues from the upcoming DrugInfo newsletter and Prevention Research Quarterly “Older people and alcohol and other drugs”.
