Drugs, Policy and Public Health-Professional Development for the AOD sector

Professional Development in Drugs, Policy and Public Health

The Alcohol and other drug field is one of the most fascinating areas of public health and public policy. Effective policy development requires a high level of background knowledge of the area, knowledge of key population groups impacted by drug use, and awareness of the policy development framework at various levels of government.

Presented by experienced policy researchers at the National Drug Research Institute and interstate experts, this one-week intensive program gives participants the opportunity to learn, consider, and develop contributions to historical and epidemiological background to improving alcohol and other drug policy in Australia.

It covers relevant theoretical models, and provides practical insights into enhancing drug policy with specific populations (e.g. injecting drug users, Indigenous people), the community and in emerging areas such as drugs and the internet. Relevant to people new to the sector wanting a ‘good start’ and old hands wanting a ‘top-up’, the overall aim is to provide participants with a framework to improve integration of research into drug policy formulation at local, state, national and international levels. We’d like you to join us at NDRI for a week considering Drugs, Policy and Public Health.

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Conference Program is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the ‘Substance Misuse Prevention and Service Improvement Grants Funds’ and is managed by the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education.
